VIRTUAL FARM FRIENDS EVERY WEDNESDAY Free!

VIRTUAL FARM FRIENDS EVERY WEDNESDAY
Our sweet baby lambs, calves, and goats have been born, and piglets will soon be on the way. Learn how the babies behave and grow during a  Facebook live stream with Farmer Billy every Wednesday at 11 am, starting tomorrow. This free 10-15 minute live feed is perfect for school groups, teachers, parents, kids, and just the plain curious. Learn about the baby animals and see them romp, eat, and even get into a bit of mischief. The piglets haven’t arrived yet, but if you’re lucky, they might arrive on a Wednesday....

Watch live on Facebook, or find us on YouTube and Instagram after the live stream.

Horizon Wings, February vacation! Tuesday, February 18, 2:00 p.m. FREE! Friends of the Merrick Public Library

Horizon Wings
Raptor Rehabilitation and Education
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged
by the way its animals are treated." – Gandhi
Horizon Wings was formed in 2001 by Mary-Beth Kaeser as a 501C3 non-profit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center specializing in Birds of Prey located in Ashford, CT.   Horizon Wings has several raptors that cannot be released back into the wild due to their injuries.  Fortunately we are able to keep these birds at our center and, with a special permit, use them for educational programs.

Bird Brains

Did you know that crows are capable of recognizing and remembering individual faces and can teach their children which individuals to avoid? Far from being “hard-wired” as previously thought, recent research proves that birds actually possess sophisticated cognitive abilities. Indeed, responding to changing conditions by changing the way they act, is often crucial to their survival. Join us as we compare and contrast the fascinating qualities of avian intelligence among four different species of birds: an American Crow, a Peregrine Falcon, an owl, and a parrot.
